Kathleen Elliott, Helping Children One Catch at a Time

Kathleen Elliot believes if you teach a child to fish, they learn so much more.

She and her husband together run a nonprofit, Mahogany Youth Corporation, where they teach inner-city at-risk youth in Miami about fishing, science and the outdoors. Their hope is that once the children are exposed to activities like scuba diving and snorkeling, they will realize the opportunities that exist outside their neighborhood.
